Project
In 2003 YP Telemetrie completed a project in the Danish community of Solrød. A very representive project since it contains a lot of combined aspects of the open and easy to use CARS software structure. It shows the advantages of using ECT, the implementation of the EnviroRanger under CARS, the optimal product support for Denmark by the local distributor and gives a practical application for the CARS Indicator module.
Location
Solrød Sewage Treatment Plant, Denmark. The plant was first established in 1967. In 1989, it was decided to extend the sewage treatment plant with biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal in order to meet the treatment requirements of the Aquatic Environment Plan.
The investigations were initiated in 1989, ant the design of the extension was finilized in 1991. The construction and civil engineering works were started at the beginning of 1992 and completed in the middle of 1993. The plant now treats 96% of the sewage water of the municipality.
Some figures:
Load: 23.000 e.p. (1 e.p. ~ 1 person)
Sewage water : 10.000 m³/day
Dry weather: 835 m³/hour
During rain: 1.250 m³/hour
Short description of system integrator/Distributor
The project was initiated by Siemens/Milltronics distributor DANOVA ApS who supplied the necessary hardware. DANOVA ApS is the first sales representative of the Siemens/Milltronics product range in Denmark. Situated in Odense, about 150 km west of Copenhagen.
Description of the project
EnviroRanger
A total of 24 Enviroranger pump stations are now guarded and monitored by the CARS software. All units were supplied, installed and tested by DANOVA ApS.
Communication between the plant and all pumpstations used to be done by means of hired lines. Now the system is running using GSM modules which leads, conspide the monthly rates, to a higher cost efficiency.
Using the EnviroRanger Configuration Tool, ECT, all units could be configured in a fraction of the typical setup time. An additional advantage of using ECT was that the ease of use that enabled the unexperienced personal to program an enhanced product such as the EnviroRanger.
ECT is a Siemens/Milltronics brandname, developed by YP engineering BV – The Netherlands.
CARS Indicator
As the plant had been modified in 1992 some simple telemetrical preparations had been made which were inherited by the CARS system. A column of about 50 signal lights on a process panel indicated substation mallfunctions. As the plant employees had allready gotten used to keeping an eye on the panel this functionallity was implemented into CARS by using the Indicator modul.
Whenever a substation within CARS becomes the Error-status not only the dot on the screen will turn red but the corresponding signal light on the panel will be lit as well.
The technical solution for this feature was realised using a Koyo PLC. A very attrictive and reliable controller, specially when keeping an eye on the costs.
Special features of this specific project
Multi Lingual
The Solrød project is the first CARS project that was translated into a language that was not allready available. Nevertheless the new language was operatable without the intervention of YP Telemetrie. A local system integrator could create the nesecarry data without any problems. This to a great releaf of our local distributor, DANOVA ApS, for whom this was the first experience with YP Telemetrie BV and the CARS software.
The fact that a second party has added a new language on their own shows the open and easy to use structure of the software. Which on its turn demonstrates the common end users desire of provider independance. Practical everyone can operate, supply and modify the CARS system requirements and settings.
Project Features

Summary
By using the flexible CARS software modules, the monitoring and controlling of the cluster of substations could be designed from a wide range of latest technologies and products and therefore provide the best value for money.
